PDF/A Competence Center

The new ISO standard for long-term archiving, PDF/A, is generating considerable interest in the market. In order to encourage the high demand for information and exchange of ideas concerning PDF/A, the PDF/A Competence Center was founded as an association.

May Computer was affiliated as first Austrian member of PDF/A Competence Center in the beginning of 2008. PDF/A Competence Center is a cooperation between numerous world-leading companies and experts in PDF technology. 


Interested parties can thus benefit from the combined knowledge of competence PDF/A suppliers. The newly founded association will offer numerous services including conducting events, working on further standardizations and serving as a central competent organization for fielding questions concerning PDF/A.

Work on the ISO Standard
Several members of the PDF/A Competence Center are technically oriented and actively participate in the further development of the PDF/A standard as members of the responsible ISO committee (ISO TC 171 – Document management applications).

Member companies test each others products for compliance with the ISO standard in order to guarantee a high level of quality. It is planned to also offer test suites and compliance checks for products from other suppliers.

Events around the PDF/A Standard
In order to address the high demand for information about PDF/A in the market, the PDF/A Competence Center will continue to organize seminars and events in different locations on a regular basis. Details about current activities can be found on the Events page.
